Horst Lohse was born in 1943 in Kulmbach in Bavaria. After his Abitur he studied in Bayreuth and Salzburg at the Mozarteum with Helmut Eder, later at the Music University of Würzburg with Bertold Hummel. Lohse today lives in Bamberg.

Chamber music works as well as works for symphony orchestra are the focus of Lohse's composition activities. Lohse received a number of prestigeous international awards.
