In parallel to studies of philosophy, Sylvain Marty very early invests the fields of contemporary jazz and improvised music where he participates in numerous creations and recordings. He has performed on Radio France (A l'improviste), Pannonica, Petit Faucheux, Muzzix, Festival, International Jazz Festival in Nevers .. His encounters with improvisers such as M. Doneda, J. DiDonato, J-L. Guionnet, J-L. Cappozzo, were very formative for the sound experimentation and the development of the micro form.

His interest in timbre and formal issues naturally leads him to contemporary music.
He studied writing at the Conservatoire de Clermont-Ferrand before studying composition with Frédéric Durieux. He then joined international academies where he could deepen his work with professors such as Chaya Czernowin, F. Bedrossian, F. Filidei, G. Aperghis, Y. Robin ..

He has worked with several ensembles including Ensemble Schallfeld, Ensemble Riot, Le Balcon, Synaesthesis ensemble, Op.cit, Ensemble 20 ° dans le noir, Ensemble Fractales, Vertixe sonora, Hanatsu Miroir, Proxima Centauri,..and pursues collaborations with musicians like Jack Adler-McKean.

His music has been performed at Wien modern, Afekt, Darmstadt, Gaida, Rainy days, Impuls, Festival des Musiques Démesurée, Kunstraum Walcheturm, Usedom Music Festival, Brighton Festival, Initiative Neue Musik...
The next projects are a Franco-Canadian project « Confluence » with Hanatsu miroir and Proxima Centauri, a commission from France Musique for « Création mondiale » with Nikel ensemble and « Swinger club » with Lovemusic and Lemniscate supported by Impuls neue Musik.

He was resident composer at Styria-artist-in-residence in Austria.
