Kai Johannes Polzhofer
Kai Johannes Polzhofer (*1989 in Munich) received his earliest composition lessons with Prof. Kay Westermann. He also received instrumental training in trumpet, violin and piano, as well as conducting lessons (Musikhochschule München). Between 2004 and 2008 he was guest student in the philosophy department of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. Since completing his high school examination in St. Ottilien, he has studied philosophy, theology and composition in Graz and Leipzig. 2013 B.A. (University Leipzig) and Diploma (“With Distinction”) in composition (Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy”, Leipzig). His teachers have included Klaus Lang, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf and Wolfram Schurig. He also had private lessons with Gösta Neuwirth. He has participated in composition courses at Darmstadt and Donaueschingen. In 2009 he was fellow and price recipient of the international Sommerakademie Prag, Wien, Budapest. 2011 participant of the Akademie Solitude. There lessons with Mark Andre, Chaya Czernowin and Steven Kazuo Takasugi. National scholarship (“Deutschlandstipendium”).
Polzhofer’s music is published by Edition Gravis (Berlin). He undertakes currently a PhD in Composition at Harvard University (Cambridge).
