Asia Ahmetjanova

Asia Ahmetjanova is Latvian composer and performer, since 2012 based in Lucerne, Switzerland, working in such fields as chamber music, music theater, art performance, texts and electronics.
She is a member of Latvian Composers Society, Member of SUISA and pianist of Swiss new music ensemble Ensemble ö!
Born in Riga, Latvia in 1992, Asia Ahmetjanova started to combine piano and composition at the age of 5. With 11 she won her first piano competition (Musical de France). With 16 she got her piece “My Folksong” published by Musica Baltica. In 2010, she graduated Emils Darzins Music School where her piano teachers were Ilze Treija and Lelde Paula and her composition teacher was Imants Zemzaris.
During her studies in Latvia Asia attended piano masterclasses with Uga Grants, which had an immense influence on her musical personality.
Same year she entered Estonian Academy of Music and Theater to study piano with prof. Aleksandra Juozapenaite-Eesmaa and harpsichord with prof. Imbi Tarum. After graduating Estonian Academy of Music and Theater with cum laude she entered Lucerne Music Highschool (Hochschule Luzern - Musik), where she completed her Master’s Degree. Piano lessons were held by prof. Konstantin Lifschitz and composition lessons by prof. Dieter Ammann and such guest composers as Bernhard Lang, Wolfgang Rihm and Enno Poppe.
Dimitris Maronidis and Junghae Lee opened for her the world of electronic music.
In September 2016 - July 2017 she was giving piano and composition group lessons (theory, field recordings, improvisation) an MescenesXXI conservatory in Paris (Neuilly-sur-Seine, France).
In September 2017 Asia started extended composition Master Programm at Hochschule Luzern - Musik, called Master of Music and Art Performance under the supervision of external tutors, such as Uli Fussenegger, Dieter Ammann, Marcel Vonesch, Urban Mäder, Electric Indigo (Susanne Kirchmayr), Carola Bauckholt, Mauro Lanza, Urban Mäder, Francesco Filidei, Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri.
At the same music high school she is currently working as piano coach of the Department of Contemporary Music, cello class of Christian Poltéra, Oboe classes of Martin Fruttiger and Ivan Podyomov.
As for composition masterclasses, important compositional inputs were given to her by such composers as Stefan Prins, Marko Ciciliani, Raphaël Cendo, Fabien Lévy, Martin Schüttler (Darmstadt International Summer Course 2014 and 2018), Oscar Bianchi, Carola Bauckholt, Fabien Lévy, Dmitry Kourliandski, Sergej Newski (Tchaikovsky City Composers Academy 2016).
As a composer she has collaborated in Europe with such ensembles as Ensemble ö! (Switzerland), ReDo String Quartet (Switzerland), Ensemble Sargo (Switzerland), Ensemble Nomads (Switzerland), New Latvian Chamber Soloists (Latvia), Compagnie la Tempête (France), Ensemble Schallfeld (Austria), Ensemble NYKY (Finland) among others and soloists from all over the world.
