Cast: for saxophone
The discussion of contemporary music is an important task in instrumental teaching. The following collection has been designed to offer teaching material relevant to this task that is suited to students' abilities in its level of difficulty. Above all, it aims to motivate students to learn different, modern aesthetic positions while also being musically stimulating and technically challenging.
Five composers (Chatschatur Kanajan, Ulrich Krieger, Harald Muenz, Ludwig Nussbichler and Stefan Streich) were requested to write short pieces for saxophone. The challenge for the composers was to create works in their characteristic musical language that were also appropriate in difficulty for middle- to upper-level music school students. The following pieces are therefore not so much intensive exercises in new techniques as a collection of contemporary saxophone music that reflects current musical positions and common difficulties in approaching new musical scores. The individual idiosyncrasies of notation have therefore been intentionally retained.
In order to support the work carried out in instrumental lessons, each piece is accompanied by a short biography of the composer as well as a short commentary that discusses particularities of the music and technical difficulties. The volume also includes a CD with recordings of every piece.
